What members must know about the orchestra

REHEARSALS

  • Regular weekly rehearsals are Mondays, 7:15 – 9:45 pm, usually at Oak Grove School, except when school is closed (holidays or snow days). Alternative locations are announced as needed.
  • Dress rehearsal is usually the Thursday before the concert weekend, location varies.
  • Please bring a music stand, music and pencil to all rehearsals.
  • It is your responsibility to stay informed of when and where rehearsals are scheduled, and to keep informed of changes.
  • An up-to-date schedule is available in the Member Info and in our Google Calendar.

ABSENCES

  • If you must be absent from any rehearsal, leave a message before 5 pm on the day of rehearsal at the Orchestra voice mailbox, (802) 257-4523, ext. 212 or e-mail Laurie before 5.
  • It is recommended that string players have no more than two absences, and wind, brass and percussion players no more than 1 absence, per rehearsal series.

SNOW DAYS

  • On occasion Orchestra rehearsals are cancelled because of inclement weather.
  • We will post cancellations by 3 pm on the message of the Orchestra voice mailbox,
    (802) 257-4523, ext.212 and on the Orchestra Google Calendar.

GETTING MUSIC AHEAD OF TIME

  • In general, music is made available at the first rehearsal of each rehearsal series. If you would prefer to see the music in advance of the first rehearsal, please contact librarian Frank Kotkov.

ORCHESTRA SUPPORT

  • We encourage Orchestra members to make a $75 or greater donation, 100% of which will go to the Orchestra. This donation is counted as a charitable donation to the BMC, a 501(c)(3) organization.
  • Make your check payable to Brattleboro Music Center, with “Windham Orchestra membership” on the memo line. Any amount is accepted, and we are especially grateful to those who give more.

VOLUNTEERING

  • The Orchestra functions through the generous volunteer efforts of its members. Everyone has more than one opportunity per year to volunteer for the Orchestra’s success and growth. Please be as generous as possible with your time and skills.

COMMUNICATION

  • We find it most efficient to communicate by e-mail.
  • Please respond to the e-mails that we send you so that we do not have to spend time e-mailing you again or calling you. If you do not have e-mail, please arrange for a stand-partner or other section member to mail copies of the e-mails to you.
